The 2022 Toyota Avalon is a terrific full-size sedan. It impresses with its roomy and upscale interior, comfortable seats, user-friendly infotainment system, and standard safety features. The Avalon is quick and smooth, with a soft ride and great gas mileage. It is a fun car to drive every day. We named the Avalon our 2022 Best Large Car for the Money because of its exceptional combination of value and quality. It was also our 2022 Best Large Car for Families due to its outstanding combination of cargo space and passenger space, safety ratings and reliability, positive reviews by automotive journalists, and the availability of family-friendly features.
Toyota Avalon vs. Toyota Camry
The Toyota Camry and Avalon are both great cars. These sedans offer spacious interiors and refined driving dynamics. They also have many of the same safety and tech features. The Avalon’s interior has a more luxurious feel and includes more standard equipment such as heated seats and blind-spot monitoring. However, the Camry is a better value proposition. The Camry is $11,000 cheaper than the Avalon base model and has a four-cylinder engine which is less efficient than the Avalon V6. You can also choose to equip the Camry with an all-wheel-drive or a powerful V6 engine. This option is not available in the Avalon. Start your search with Camry.
Avalon Interior Quality
The Toyota Avalon does a convincing impression of its Lexus ES cousin. It’s modern and clean-cut with many high-end materials such as synthetic leather, soft-touch plastic, and wood. The dashboard is elegant with its angular elements, which tie into the door panels, and the sleek infotainment screen rises gracefully above the center console. The cabin does an excellent job of muffling road noise and wind.
Avalon Infotainment
The Avalon has an intuitive infotainment system. The 9-inch touch screen is brightly lit and responsive, it sports neatly arranged menus, and it’s accompanied by physical controls for the main audio and climate settings. One problem is the optional navigation system. It seems out of date by modern standards. It has low-resolution graphics and is slow to operate. It is better to use your smartphone’s GPS and connect it via the standard Apple Car Play/Android Auto systems.
Avalon Engine Performance
The 2022 Toyota Avalon is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Standard features include an eight-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive and an eight-speed manual transmission. This powertrain matches the Avalon perfectly. The V6 revs enthusiastically and propels the large sedan along the track and up to speed. It takes just six seconds to go from 0-60 mph. It allows for quick passing maneuvers on the freeway and smooth gear changes.
Avalon Cargo Space
The Avalon has 16.1 cubic feet of trunk space. This is a good size car for large cars. It can carry a few bags, large groceries, and two sets of golf club clubs. It is also possible to fold the rear seats, making it easier for longer items such as skis.
